Closed Alpha Release
Announcing the Closed Alpha Testing Phase
After half a year of development, we’re excited to announce the first alpha testing phase for our DCS Server hosting platform. During this period, which will last around 3 months, you can rent servers for free. We aim to have fast and effective communication with our users, so we’ve set up a Discord Server. Feel free to join and share your thoughts!
The Need for a Better DCS Hosting Solution
We encountered a common problem when wanting to play a quick session with friends - it’s hard to quickly set up a DCS server with mods like Olympus and just be able to fly for a few hours.
We’ve developed solutions to these problems, addressing the issues we believe most users face when setting up a server without much hassle. For example:
- Fast server setup with terrains (less than 30 seconds)
- One-click mod installation, such as Olympus or SRS
- Easy mission upload and selection, all in one place
We’d like to touch on these points now, so you can understand our vision for how these features should work and how they’re currently implemented. These features are subject to change, but we’re proud to showcase them.
Blazingly Fast Server Setup with One-Click Mod Installation
Our server setup process differs significantly from other solutions, with a strong emphasis on performance. You can set up the base game with a terrain like Caucasus in under 30 seconds.
This enables spontaneous play sessions without the hassle of port forwarding, poor performance, or complicated mod setup. We’re very excited to see how our users will take advantage of this.
Here’s a quick demo (in real-time):
One-Click Mod Installation
In the demo, we installed SRS. For this or any other mod you install with this feature, every time you start your server, the server software for that mod will also start.
This includes enabling all necessary port forwarding for the specific mod. For mods like SRS or Olympus, you also have the option to change all the settings the mods offer through our web interface. Changes are applied instantly, with only a restart needed.
WebGUI and Account Credentials
You might’ve noticed that we didn’t need to provide credentials for the server login. This is something we’re particularly proud of. By default, we use credentials for a common user account, so your server can be started seamlessly.
We’ve reimplemented all WebGUI functions you might want:
- Uploading and selecting missions
- Managing server settings and state
- Managing players
- Many more
This has the significant advantage of using only one web interface. No more switching between the Eagle Dynamics WebGUI, a file hosting page, and a page for managing your server. It’s all in one place.
Here’s a quick peek:
A Note for Developers
We’re going to offer full API access for these functions. Player, mission, and more stats (everything the normal WebGUI offers) will be available through our REST-API. This will be rolled out in the Beta phase, but if you already have something in mind, don’t hesitate to reach out. After that, the API will also support creating and managing servers.
Closing Remarks & Joining the Alpha
We’re really happy with how our project has evolved over the past few months, and we’re looking forward to seeing how you’ll use this platform and share your experiences with us.
